Jessica (Paxton) Warren, John Warren, Chet Paxton, Joel Warren, and Sarah Warren


The Paxton Ranch was started by Chester R. "Chet" Paxton.


Who died April 17, 1999, at the age of 89 just short of his 90th birthday.
Chet come to Nebraska in 1911 at the age of two in an immigrant car. He came with his parents, an older brother and two sisters to a homestead south of Seneca, Nebraska. In 1922 he developed a severe bone infection in his leg and it was amutated. He graduated from high school in Thedford, Nebraska in 1927. Then attended business college in Grand Island.


Chet was elected Thomas County Judge at the age of 23, making him the youngest judge in the state. He was later elected to the office of Thomas County Treasure. He also worked as a cashier at the Stockman Bank at Seneca and later the Abbott Bank at Thedford.

On Febuary 2, 1944 Chet married Ida Jensen from Iowa. Who preceded him in death in January 1998.


Chet enjoyed being a rancher, and went to the ranch nearly everyday after his retirement. He would go out and watch the men and help in whatever way that he could. He built up his ranch section by section, buying land as the money and land became available. His ranch is located in souther Thomas County and Northern Logan County.


Chet served on a term as Nebraska State Senator.
He was appointed by Gov. Crosby as one of the original trustees of the Cowboy Hall Of Fame in Oklahoma City. He was honored in 1998 for being the last of the original board of directors.


He was honored by being made a member of the Nebraska Navy, and he won the Good Neighbor award with his wife, Ida. He was also give the honor of being allowed to sail on the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard for a week as a guest of the Navy.


When asked what was the greatest accomplishment of his life he would respond, "the long time relationship with the people, especially the men on the ranch."


Chet is greatly missed on the cattle drives and just being around the ranch.
